IVIMs carry road sign and infrastructure information (ETSI TS 103 301 / ISO 19321) — essentially electronic road signage.

Typical contents:

1. variable speed limits from overhead gantries
2. lane closures and lane management
3. warnings shown on variable message signs
4. sign information for a stretch of road

IVIMs are sent by RSUs, e.g. on the ASFINAG motorway network, and are valid for a defined section of road rather than a single point.
