Coverage

Where C-ITS is actually live. This page is purely geographic — which regions have deployed C-ITS, and what people have really received there. Which vehicles and infrastructure transmit in the first place is covered on Senders.

How this list works

Every entry has one or two paragraphs. The first says what is documented, the second — if there is one — what somebody has actually received.

Keeping these apart matters, because of two things that are easy to get wrong:

  • An OTM node only hears ITS-G5. Several sites use C-V2X or the cellular network alongside it, or instead of it. Those parts cannot be received, no matter how large the project sounds.
  • A deployment is not the same as something being on the air. Many entries below are research test fields, some of them finished years ago. 📰 only says the project existed.

Seeing a roadside unit housing is not a ✅ — say so in the 📰 paragraph instead.

Austria

Graz

📰 Holding Graz has equipped the city with a C-ITS traffic system covering traffic lights, trams and buses.

✅ Trams and traffic lights are regularly visible on the live map; the traffic lights send MAPEM and SPATEM.

Klagenfurt

📰 Under C-Roads Austria 3, 12 RSUs were installed along with OBUs in 74 scheduled buses and 3 automated shuttles (City of Klagenfurt).

✅ Received and visible on the live map.

Vienna

📰 The city runs Car2X traffic lights as part of its cooperative intelligent transport systems programme.

Motorways (ASFINAG)

📰 ASFINAG has equipped the Austrian motorway network with C-ITS on a large scale, one of the earliest deployments of that size in Europe (C-ITS Deployment Group).

✅ RSUs along the network, plus roadworks safety trailers sending DENMs.

Germany

Motorways

📰 The Autobahn GmbH is rolling out C-ITS on the federal motorway network. Separately, the C-Roads pilot in Hesse runs a motorway test field of currently about 200 km along the A3, A5, A60, A67, A671 and part of the A661, to be extended to roughly 280 km. The radio technology is not stated on either page, so it is unclear how much of this an OTM node can hear.

Aachen

📰 The ACCorD test field is a research corridor between Aachen and Düsseldorf. It deliberately uses two channels — ITS-G5 and C-V2X (project paper), so not everything it carries is receivable with an OTM node.

✅ The eight traffic lights on Vaalser Straße broadcast MAPEM and SPATEM. The Melaten RSUs have since been rearranged into only two locations, and of the Herzogenrath traffic lights only two still work.

Berlin

📰 Eight traffic lights on Schloßstraße in Steglitz are equipped for bus priority over ITS-G5, in trial operation with BVG buses since 9 July 2026. Unlike the one-way registration it replaces, the buses get a reply. The announcement covers bus-to-traffic-light communication only; whether the units also broadcast MAPEM or SPATEM is not stated (VIZ Berlin).

Earlier, the research project DIGINET-PS fitted about 15 traffic lights along Straße des 17. Juni with Swarco ITS-G5 units broadcasting phase and timing. It ran from 2017 to 2019 and nothing documents whether those units still transmit — the 2026 announcement above calling Schloßstraße Berlin's *first* C-ITS traffic lights suggests they do not.

Braunschweig

📰 The DLR AIM reference track around the inner ring road is the most substantial ITS-G5 installation in Germany that we know of: 56 intersections fitted with roadside units, running year-round since 2014, broadcasting CAM, DENM, MAPEM, SPATEM and IVIM. A few sites use C-V2X instead. Separately, the C-Roads pilot for Lower Saxony covers the Braunschweig city area and is being extended along roads towards Hanover and Wolfsburg; its radio technology is not stated.

Dresden

📰 Dresden is the third of the original C-Roads Germany urban nodes, running probe vehicle data, GLOSA, emergency vehicle approach and traffic signal priority services. The radio technology is not stated, so receivability is unconfirmed.

Düsseldorf

📰 KoMoDnext equipped a roughly 20 km corridor — the A57 between Meerbusch and Kaarst, and the Rheinallee tunnel — with roadside units able to send over both ITS-G5 and cellular. The project ended in March 2022, so whether anything still transmits is unknown.

Hamburg

📰 As a C-Roads Germany urban node, Hamburg has fitted 140 traffic lights with roadside units for GLOSA and probe vehicle data, plus a vulnerable-road-user service at an unsignalised double intersection in HafenCity. The pilot names 802.11p / ETSI G5 explicitly, which makes this one of the more promising German sites (specification, PDF).

Kassel

📰 Kassel is one of the three original C-Roads Germany urban nodes, running harmonised Day-1 services (City of Kassel).

Munich

📰 The TEMPUS test field fitted about 65 traffic lights in the north of the city with roadside units, with emergency vehicle priority at two of them near Unterschleißheim. TEMPUS tested both ITS-G5 and C-V2X and does not say how the 65 split between them. The project ran to the end of 2023; continued operation is not documented.

Ulm / Neu-Ulm

📰 Thirteen RSU locations at traffic lights are documented, eight in Ulm and five along Reuttier Straße in Neu-Ulm, from three different manufacturers.

✅ The temporaerhaus hackerspace has surveyed them with MAC addresses, coordinates and photos. Trams and buses transmit as well, several of them with a wrong or unassigned line number.

Belgium

📰 Flanders runs Mobilidata, whose intelligent traffic lights are described as internet-connected and reached through an app — ITS-G5 is not mentioned, so most of the programme is unlikely to be receivable. The exception is the imec Smart Highway testbed near Antwerp: seven roadside units on gantries along a 4 km stretch of the E313, supporting ITS-G5 and C-V2X at 5.9 GHz.

✅ Nodes have reported C-ITS from Belgium on the live map.

Netherlands

📰 The national Talking Traffic / iVRI programme has put more than 700 intelligent traffic lights on the road, but it works over the cellular network and a smartphone app. The decisive detail for us: Dutch traffic lights send SPAT and MAPEM over UDAP, an access-controlled protocol, not over 802.11p — so the traffic lights themselves cannot be picked up with an OTM node, however many of them there are.

✅ Nodes have reported C-ITS from the Netherlands on the live map.

Vehicles

Vehicle sightings are not tied to a place — a Golf 8 transmits wherever it drives. They are therefore listed by model on Senders rather than here.

In short: what you receive as a vehicle is almost always a Volkswagen Group model, occasionally a Cupra Born, plus special-purpose and commercial vehicles belonging to the projects above.
