This is an old revision of the document!

Coverage

Where C-ITS is actually live. This page is purely geographic — which regions have deployed C-ITS, and what people have really received there. Which vehicles and infrastructure transmit in the first place is covered on Senders.

How this list works

Two different kinds of information end up here, and they are worth keeping apart:

  • Deployment — a documented rollout by an operator, a city or a road authority. Backed by a source: a project page, a press release, a tender.
  • Sighting — somebody actually received something and can say so. Backed by the live map or by a capture.

A deployment does not guarantee that anything is on the air today, and a sighting can exist without any published project behind it. Both are useful, so both are listed, but they are marked differently.

Adding an entry: register a wiki account and add it yourself. For a sighting, the useful details are the date, the location, the message type and — if you have it — something identifying, such as a tram line, a course number or the intersection. A screenshot from the live map helps. For a deployment, add the source link.

Legend

Marker Meaning
Documented deployment, with a source
Community sighting — received and confirmed
☑◉ Both: documented and confirmed on air

TODO: Additional markers were discussed but not yet decided — for example whether messages are signed, and whether a location has infrastructure (RSU) or only vehicles (OBU). Please settle the set of markers before the list grows further, so that entries do not have to be reworked later.

Austria

Graz

☑◉ Traffic lights, trams and buses. Trams and traffic lights are regularly visible on the live map; the traffic lights send MAPEM and SPATEM.

Klagenfurt

☑◉ 12 RSUs installed, plus OBUs in 74 scheduled buses and 3 automated shuttles.

Vienna

☑◉ Car2X traffic lights, as part of the city's cooperative intelligent transport systems programme.

Motorways (ASFINAG)

☑◉ ASFINAG has equipped the Austrian motorway network with C-ITS on a large scale. RSUs along the network, plus roadworks safety trailers sending DENMs.

☑ The Autobahn GmbH is rolling out C-ITS on the federal motorway network.

Aachen

☑◉ ACCorD test field. The parts that carry C-ITS infrastructure:

  • Vaalser Straße in Aachen, part of the B 1 — 8 signalised intersections
  • Campus Melaten of RWTH Aachen — several RSUs along the 2.4 km urban test section
  • L 232 near Herzogenrath and L 240 near Alsdorf — 3 signalised intersections each, on rural roads outside the city

Berlin

☑ Eight traffic lights on Schloßstraße in Steglitz, equipped for bus priority over ITS-G5 and in trial operation with BVG buses since 9 July 2026 — Berlin's first C-ITS installation. Unlike the older one-way registration it replaces, the buses get a reply. The announcement covers bus-to-traffic-light communication only; whether the units also broadcast MAPEM or SPATEM is not stated.

Braunschweig

Hamburg

☑◉ Bus prioritisation via C-ITS.

Kassel

☑ C-Roads Germany phase 3, Hesse.

Munich

☑ TEMPUS test field.

Ulm / Neu-Ulm

☑◉ 13 RSUs at traffic lights documented, eight in Ulm and five along Reuttier Straße in Neu-Ulm, from three different manufacturers. Trams and buses transmit as well, several of them with a wrong or unassigned line number.

Vehicles

Vehicle sightings are not tied to a place — a Golf 8 transmits wherever it drives. They are therefore listed by model on Senders rather than here.

In short: what you receive as a vehicle is almost always a Volkswagen Group model, occasionally a Cupra Born, plus special-purpose and commercial vehicles belonging to the projects above.
