====== Home Assistant ======

There are two ways to combine OpenTrafficMap with Home Assistant:

===== Monitoring an OpenTrafficMap node =====

The node publishes its telemetry to the [[en:software:mqtt|MQTT broker]]. Home Assistant can read it via the **MQTT integration**; from there you can build sensors, automations, and dashboards. The credentials for subscribing to your own node are shown in the self-service portal — see [[en:node_registration|Node Registration]].

===== ESPHome-based receiver =====

[[https://github.com/hn/esphome-its-g5|hn/esphome-its-g5]] is an ESPHome **external component** that turns an ESP32-C5 into an ITS-G5 receiver:

  * receives raw 802.11p frames on a configurable channel (5860–5900 MHz, e.g. 5900 MHz / G5CC)
  * an ''on_packet'' trigger gives you the frame bytes, signal strength (RSSI), channel, and reception rate for your own automations
  * optional sensors expose ''packets_received'' and ''packets_dropped'' counters
  * the example configuration ''its-g5-opentrafficmap.yaml'' forwards all frames to the OpenTrafficMap [[en:software:mqtt|MQTT server]] — set the ''node_id'' substitution to your Ethernet MAC address or your assigned friendly name

For OpenTrafficMap integration an Ethernet chip (e.g. KSZ8851SNL, W5500, ENC28J60) is used alongside the ESP32-C5.
